Meet The Team

Liz Oakley

Liz has the rare ability to walk into a room and speak to someone about the worst thing that has ever happened to them in a way that they feel equally safe and vulnerable. Her skill as an interviewer and craftsmanship as a storyteller allow her to extract the human cost at the center of a story. It’s a talent that yields measurable results.

Her first feature-length documentary, Sentencing The Victim, aired on PBS’s Emmy-award winning series Independent Lens and was the driving force that changed South Carolina law (S.935 Rat #0394, Act #0263 of 2004). When a trial lawyer asked if she could bring those same talents to a plaintiff’s case the results were undeniable. She now offers over 20 years of legal insight and has identified millions in additional damages in the course of uncovering the best way to capture, inspire and transform the presentation of a case.

Liz has presented her work to the US Department of Justice, all US Attorney offices, film festivals around the world, television audiences in the United States, government decision makers in China and SporTV fans in Brazil.  When she is not traveling, she enjoys her home in Charleston, SC and time with family, friends, a horse named Guinness, a cat named Tiger, and her dog, Forrest.

Sara Nesson

Sara is an Academy Award, EMMY nominated, and IDA (International Documentary Association) winning director best known for her film, Poster Girl, about the first female convoy gunner in the Iraq War and her continued battles at home with PTSD. This experience led Sara to develop her artistic voice as a veritè style filmmaker whose work enlightens, builds empathy, and articulates complex emotional narratives. Her desire to make a real world impact on people's lives led her to Oakley Productions.

Mentored by her documentary filmmaker, adventure-seeking father, she cut her teeth on a wildlife expedition which left them both stranded on a Siberian peninsula. That life-altering experience, along with working as a sea kayaking guide in Alaska, taught her a thing or two about powering through any challenge. She can still pull off an Eskimo Roll.

Sara lives in Los Angeles with her significant other and cat, Bernie.
